Can I come to your shop and buy somthing today? No. At this time we are by appointment only, and operating from our Cottage Kitchen location. Our cottage kitchen location is not inspected by the Texas Health Dept. and is not required to be so, per the SB81 law as of Sept. 1, 2011. Our storefront will be open soon in Canyon Lake.
How far in advance should I order my cake? With the exception of Next Day Cakes or Next day Cupcakes Divine orders, I request at least one week (7 full days) prior to your event for all custom orders. If you want a kit cake you must order 2 weeks (14 full days) prior to your event to receive the kit from the manufacturer. I do not keep kits in stock. I can do a cake in as few as 3 days provided my schedule permits, a rush fee does apply on any order with less than 7 days notice if I squeeze you into my production schedule (minimum of $25). I generally book very quickly so plan ahead!
For wedding cakes or large event cakes & cupcake orders (100 servings or more) it is advised to order at least 6 months in advance. I have from time to time been able to squeeze in a same month order but again a rush fee will be charged. Wedding cakes take planning and if we already have several orders on the books for your selected date I have to revamp my production schedule to fit your order into it so all get a great quality cake.
We are inviting 150 people how much cake should I order? Because one can never really say how many attendees will eat cake it is always best to err on the side of more than less. You want to make sure that everyone who wants cake can receive a piece, and you never know if your guest list might all actually want a piece of cake. It is very upsetting to a wedding guest who wants a piece of cake to not get one because you didn't order enough for everyone. And believe it or not many will want seconds or even thirds! Take into consideration whether or not you want to serve the top tier or save it for the first anniversary. Take into consideration how much free booze will be available, people who are drinking generally won't eat cake, so if you have an open bar and your guests tend to be big drinkers you probably can get away with a little less cake, but there again, some will want to take a slice home for the next day. Also, if you are offering a dessert along with your cake you could possibly get away with fewer servings. It is not advised however to have other desserts at your reception. It is generally assumed that the wedding cake is the dessert.
Do you provide cake toppers and/or cake platforms? No on both. The only time I do a cake topper is if I am commissioned to make one from gumpaste. This fee is over and above your cake cost and my figurine prices begin at $45. Sugar flower toppers and cake elements are included however in the level 3 fondant division of my price schedule. Cake platforms can be rented from your local rental facility where your linens and such are rented.
Do you do sponsorships for weddings? No. Here is a link to a very informative article regarding the falacy of sponsorships at weddings. Click here for article.
Can I pay you when I pick up or you deliver my order? With the exception of Next Day Cakes and Next day Cupcakes Divine orders, all orders, because they are custom, must be paid for in full, prior to pick up or delivery. All orders under $300 must be paid for at time of order. Orders over $300 a 50% deposit is due at time of order or $300 whichever is larger, with balance due 14 days prior to event.
Why are your cakes priced so much higher than Walmart? Because I am not Walmart. I make everything fresh and custom. Walmart cakes are already baked and shipped to each store, I bake fresh using premium ingredients. They purchase premade icing in buckets. My icings are all scratch made and made fresh. Walmart can purchase in large quanities allowing them to command a price from their wholesalers that is pennies on the dollar. I must pay retail for my premium ingredients. Walmart limits your design choice to what is in their books. I can do what is in their book, and any custom design over and above what they can offer. Walmart cannot do 3D designs or fondant cakes, I can. Walmart decorators must comply with their production lists of case cakes in addition to every custom order that comes in. When I was a grocery store decorator years ago, we couldn't spend anymore time on someone's wedding cake than we could the case cakes that were for the grab & go customers. Speed was everything, look and taste really didn't matter, just get it done so the cake is ready when the customer wants it. Also, it was nothing for me alone to have over 100 custom orders on a Saturday, most want them to all be picked up by noon. Because I limit the amount of orders I accept for any given event day, your order gets my full attention to detail. The main cost of a cake is labor, not the ingredient costs. Custom masterpieces take quite a bit time to create. There are many other factors that also go into the pricing of custom cakes that include, but not limited to: retail space rental, insurance, licenses, education expenses, equipment expenses, delivery vehicle, etc. If you are having trouble fitting the cake which is the crowning jewel of your reception (other than the bride of course) into your budget consider lowering your guest count. The average all inclusive wedding cost is $100 per guest, so you should expect to spend for your entire wedding $10,000 if you have 100 guests attending. There are ways to cut budgets, but honestly the cake shouldn't be an option to cut corners on.
Do you do fake tiers and kitchen (sheet) cakes? Yes, but it really won't save you any money unless you rent a cake dummy I already have available. If I have to create a custom design for you, it will cost the same as if it were made in cake, plus the cost of the kitchen (sheet) cakes. Dummy foam is extremely expensive, most times even more expensive than cake itself. If you like one of my dummy cakes and want to rent one that is fine. The rental rate is 1/3 of the cost of a real cake, and you must return the dummy cake with in 48 hours after your event. A cash deposit is required equal to the price if it were in real cake over and above the rental rate and kitchen (sheet) cake costs. If it is returned with no damage your deposit will be returned in full. If the cake is damaged, it will be assessed and your deposit deducted accordingly. Allow 1 week from event date to receive deposit funds if there is damage. If no damage your cash deposit is returned in full immediately upon receipt of the dummy cake. Please note the kitchen (sheet) cakes will not be torted or filled, it will be a slab of cake with basic icing on it, no fancy decor at all. It is not seen by your guests, the caterer will cut and serve the cake already plated. Caterers generally will charge a cutting/plating fee so be prepared for this. If you want the cake pre-scored so the caterer can simply plate the cake, there is a cutting fee that is charged of 25 cents per serving.
What forms of payment do you accept? All major credit cards and cash are accepted . Please do not ask us to accept a check or money order for your order. Next Day Cakes and Next Day Cupcakes Divine Orders are CASH ON DELIVERY ONLY! NO CHECKS / NO CREDIT CARDS.
